- Purpose and Scope
This policy sets out the identity verification requirements and procedures applicable to patrons and account holders at Nanaimo Casino, located at 620 Terminal Avenue, Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. The policy applies to all individuals seeking entry to the venue, accessing cashier services, or engaging in transactions that fall within regulated thresholds under applicable Canadian law.
Identity verification at Nanaimo Casino is conducted in accordance with Canadian federal and provincial regulatory frameworks governing land-based casino operations. These frameworks include financial intelligence and anti-money laundering requirements applicable to casinos operating in Canada. Nanaimo Casino is operated by Great Canadian Entertainment, and personal information matters are administered through Lahal Casino Management.
- Legal Basis for Identity Verification
Nanaimo Casino is required to verify the identity of patrons and transacting parties under Canadian regulatory requirements applicable to casino operators. These requirements mandate identity verification in the following circumstances, among others:
- Receipt of cash or funds of $10,000 or more in a single transaction or series of related transactions
- Casino disbursements meeting or exceeding applicable regulatory thresholds
- Extension of credit of $3,000 or more
- Receipt of funds of $3,000 or more
- Foreign currency exchange transactions of $3,000 or more
- Transactions identified as suspicious, regardless of amount
- Electronic funds transfers meeting specified thresholds
These obligations apply independently of any voluntary casino policy and are enforceable under Canadian federal law. Nanaimo Casino does not have discretion to waive these requirements.
- Entry Verification
All individuals entering Nanaimo Casino premises are subject to identity verification at the point of entry. Security personnel are authorised to request and scan valid government-issued photographic identification before permitting access to the gaming floor or any other area of the venue.
Failure to present acceptable identification at the point of entry will result in denial of access. This requirement applies to all patrons regardless of prior visit history or membership status.
4. Acceptable Identity Documents
4.1 Primary Identification
For the purpose of entry and transaction-related verification, Nanaimo Casino accepts government-issued photographic identification documents. Acceptable primary documents include, but are not limited to:
- Valid Canadian driver’s licence
- Valid Canadian passport
- Valid provincial or territorial identification card
- Valid foreign passport where applicable
The document presented must be current, unaltered, and legible. Expired documents are not accepted.
4.2 Supporting Documentation
Where verification of address or date of birth is required in addition to primary identification, a supporting document may be requested. Acceptable supporting documents include:
- Recent utility bill issued within the preceding three months
- Recent bank statement issued within the preceding three months
- Government-issued correspondence confirming the patron’s address
Supporting documents must display the patron’s full name and the relevant data point being verified. Documents that do not meet these criteria will not be accepted.
4.3 Verification of Appearance
Where photographic identification is presented, casino personnel are required to compare the patron’s physical appearance to the photograph contained in the document. This comparison is conducted as part of the standard verification procedure and does not constitute an accusation or implication of wrongdoing.
- Transaction-Level Verification
For transactions meeting or exceeding the thresholds described in Section 2, Nanaimo Casino will request identity documentation at the cashier or relevant service point. Patrons must provide the required documentation before the transaction is processed. Nanaimo Casino reserves the right to decline or suspend a transaction pending satisfactory completion of identity verification.
Where a transaction is identified as suspicious, identity verification may be required regardless of the transaction amount. This requirement applies in all cases and cannot be waived by the patron or by casino staff below the level of authorised compliance personnel.
- Collection and Handling of Personal Information
Personal information collected during the identity verification process, including copies or scans of identity documents, is handled in accordance with Nanaimo Casino’s Privacy Policy. The collection, use, disclosure, and protection of this information is governed by applicable Canadian privacy legislation.

Nanaimo Casino reserves the right to refuse entry or service to any individual who fails to complete identity verification to the satisfaction of authorised personnel. Where a patron disputes a verification decision, the matter may be escalated to a senior compliance officer or venue manager.
